Microbial Ecology and
Kinetics of Chlorinated Aliphatic Solvent Biodegradation
Project Title: PECASE: Integrated Modeling and Experimental Evaluations of Competition between PCE-Dehalogenating Populations: Implications for In Situ Bioremediation
Funding: National Science Foundation
Description:
When multiple dehalorespiring populations are present, several competitive (or complementary) interactions may occur and affect the outcome of bioremediation (Becker, 2006).
The inhibitive effects of chlorinated solvents on complete detoxification of the contaminants may also be compounded in cultures containing multiple dehalorespiring populations (Lai and Becker, 2013)
