This tour will visit a shrine honoring Bishop Frederick Baraga, The Snowshoe Priest. Bishop Baraga established five missions along the south shore of Lake Superior in the mid-1800’s. The MTU Ford Forestry Center includes one of four UP sawmills built and operated by Henry Ford. Opened in 1936, the mill in Alberta closed operations in the 1950’s and was deeded to MTU in 1954. Time permitting, this tour will continue on to Point Abbeye, arguably the most scenic spot in the region with up close and personal views of the Huron Islands, Huron Mountains and Lake Superior.
