Burd Hikes, Class of '49

Mr. Burd Hikes, a 1949 civil engineering graduate of Michigan Tech, is the retired president of Lakeside Equipment Corporation. Burd began his career as a sanitary engineer with the Pacific Flush Tank Company. In 1959, he became vice president of Lakeside Engineering Corporation and was elected president in 1970, a position he has held until his recent retirement. He is a member of ASCE, the Water Environment Federation, the Western Society of Engineers, and the Inter-American Association of Sanitary Engineering. He received MTU's Silver Medal Award in 1975. Burd has been an active supporter of Michigan Tech, serving on the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's Professional Advisory Board, the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, the Michigan Tech Fund's Board of Trustees, and a Volunteer for the Century II Campaign.
