Herbert
L. Fluharty, P.E., Class of '65
Mr. Herbert Fluharty, President of MEARSGROUP,
Inc., completed a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering
in 1965. Following graduation, he was employed by his father's
company, Welded Construction Co., as Chief Engineer. In 1967
he joined Underwriter's Laboratories in Chicago as a project
engineer. He returned to his hometown of Rosebush, Michigan
in 1970 and formed Fluharty Engineering and later changed
the name to MEARS ENGINEERING, Inc. Since that time, Herb
has developed MEARS into a successful group of companies which
specialize in pipeline engineering; pipeline rehabilitation;
horizontal directional drilling; and long-line fiber optic
underground construction.
Professionally Mr. Fluharty is registered
as a Professional Engineer in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio
and is a Professional Surveyor in Michigan and Ohio. He is
active with several organizations including; Directional Crossing
Contractors Association; Distribution Contractor's Association;
Power & Communications Contractor's Association; National
Association of Corrosion Engineers; and on the Board of Directors
of WPRJ Christian Radio.
In his years at Michigan Tech, Herb was a
member of Kappa Delta Psi fraternity and was active in intramural
sports. Herb and his wife, Christine, a Hancock native, are
strong supporters of the CEE Department. The Fluharty's live
in Mount Pleasant, Michigan and have four adult children and
four grandchildren. |
